Everyone has different vices. I love sodas, energy drinks, and other forms of junk food. I try to sample each new flavor that comes out, and I was really excited when I saw the tweet from Monster about the new Ultra Gold. So, was Monster Energy Ultra Gold worth it?

It took about two weeks for me to finally track down this bad boy, and I was starting to get discouraged. Since damn near everything is still closed, this became my mission. Every time I went out to run errands I’d check another corner store.
I saw ads for it on the outside of a convenience store, but they didn’t actually have it in stock. I started to feel like I was being taunted.
Today I had a premonition that a 7/11 on the other side of town had it in stock. I felt like a prospector in 19th century California. Finally, my search for gold was over.
If you haven’t tried the Monster Ultra flavors, then you may need a quick rundown. As far as zero sugar energy drinks go, they’re pretty good.
I’ve tried all of the current Monster Ultra flavors. They tend to have a more subtle flavor profile than similar drinks like Bang, but without the same chemical sweetener scent and taste. I prefer the original Monsters myself, but the light taste and varied flavors of the Zero Ultra line makes for a nice change of pace.
The drink immediately lives up to its description. The pineapple taste is immediate apparent, but not overwhelming. This is consistent with the other fruit flavors that are available. If you’re going into this expecting Pineapple Fanta, then you’re going to be disappointed. It has the same light quality of the other Monster Ultra flavors.
Pineapple is one of my favorite flavors, and it’s always fun to try a new flavor. Out of the current crop, this one is definitely my favorite. Tracking down the drink was a side quest that I didn’t mind taking on.
TL;DR It’s worth trying if you have at least two of the following traits:
I’ll give them this, the can sure is eye-catching.
