Rare weapon acquisition is a little different in the newest hack and slash from Koei Tecmo. Here’s how to get rare weapons in Samurai Warriors 5.

Weapon differences in Samurai Warriors 5

If you’ve played previous titles, you know that weapon levels 1-3 are usually random drops, and 4th (or 5th, 6th, etc) weapons are extremely powerful in comparison. Sometimes the game will have you jump through some insane hoops to get these weapons, but they’re all generally worth it.

However, this isn’t necessarily the case in this game. All you have to do is play certain maps with certain characters and you’ll get the weapons pretty easily.

How do weapon ranks work in Samurai Warriors 5?

There are essentially three ranks: bronze, silver, and gold. Gold weapons are the rare ones with unlock conditions. Silver weapons with 8 empty slots will drop from missions, and those are the ones that you can trick out with all the overpowered weapon skills.

How do gold weapons stack up against craftable weapons?

The silver weapons have a lower base power, but have flexibility. You can put whatever elements you want, and max them out. In contrast, the gold weapons are locked.

Can I craft another Samonji?

You’ll eventually see it as a weapon drop. You can also eventually craft it as a weapon skin in the blacksmith.

What are the unlock conditions for rare weapons?

There are a few things you have to do, but this is one of the easiest musou games to grab all the rare weapons for.

You have to play the specified map with the specified character, and make S ranks in all four categories on Hard or higher difficulty. If you’ve already achieved S ranks then you won’t be able to see your progress.

After you complete both stages with the particular characters, then you’ll get the weapon after the battle.

You don’t have to get all 4 S ranks in a single battle, so you can focus on time for one run, combos for another, etc.

You can play the levels in any order, and you can also play them in local co-op.

You do not have to complete all the objectives in the battle.

Regarding unlocking rare weapons in Samurai Warriors 5

While you’re going to have to grab all these for trophies or achievements, bear in mind that the best weapons are going to be the ones you craft yourself. Don’t feel like you need to knock yourself out to get these, that ship has apparently sailed on the Samurai Warriors franchise. Incidentally, don’t be surprised if DLC weapons eventually bring some real power creep.

  1. You CAN craft Samonji and it even drops a bunch, only later when you finish the 2 stories, hasty guide is hasty…

  2. Also something to note: you can’t do freeplay to get the weapons. Ran a simple one The Moon’s Divine Providence as free play and on hard mode with correct players and didn’t get it after aceing all of them.
